Located in Quzhou, a city in the southeast of Zhejiang province, China, the Lixian Future Community project began in July 2019. The city, known for its rich cultural history and abundant landscape resources, served as the perfect backdrop for this innovative design. The project's core area spans approximately 28.8 hectares, with a gross floor area of 644416 square meters.
The Lixian Future Community stands out for its unique properties. gad's design constructs a platform above the traditional transportation level, functioning as various garden landscapes. The community groups are arranged in rhythmic orderings of low density, small block, and abundant landscape to create a pleasant spatial scale. The architectural features incorporate both traditional and futuristic elements, creating a distinctive aesthetic that sets the project apart.
One of the key highlights of the Lixian community is the use of the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) mode. The local bus network is connected to the bus terminal integrating the neighborhood center. The center organizes possible nurseries, rest homes, entrepreneur hubs, and multifunctional spaces with carefully planned civic infrastructures. These elements together create a complete TOD system that connects all the nodes, structuring the whole Lixian community.
The design process faced several challenges, primarily related to the humanization, ecologicalization, and digitization of the community. The team had to explore future living ways suited for China and ensure that the "nine future scenes" of neighborhood, education, health, business, architecture, transportation, low-carbon, service, and governance were fully complemented throughout the design activity. Collaboration between the urban design team and the architecture team was key to overcoming these challenges.
The Lixian Future Community project has been recognized for its innovation and excellence, winning the Silver A' City Planning and Urban Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The project's success is a testament to gad's commitment to pushing the boundaries of urban design and creating spaces that enhance the quality of life for residents.
